What is the Next Step?
So how do you go about making the most of your relationship with God? What’s next? Although there is more involved in developing your relationship with God than I could possibly cover here, I do want to mention a few things to help you get started.
One of the keys to any strong relationship is good communication. For maximum growth and development, you’ll want to make sure that you communicate with God on a daily basis. There’s no substitute for that personal one-on-one time with Him.
Read Your Bible Daily and Pray
How do you communicate with God? Through prayer and Bible study. Prayer is you talking to God. It includes worshiping Him for Who He is, thanking Him for what He has done for you, and making requests regarding your needs. There is no need too large or too small to bring to God. He is intimately concerned about every detail of your life and is ready and willing to help you in every situation you face.
“Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.” Phil. 4:6
Now that you’re His child, you have the privilege of free access to God anytime, anywhere. Don’t let it go to waste.
Bible study is God talking to you. That does not mean that you’ll hear an audible voice as you’re reading. It just means that the Bible is a written record of the truths God wants you to understand about Himself and the world in which you live.
“Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Tim 3:16-17 (AMP)
“This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.” Joshua 1:8
Find a Church and Attend Regularly
Find a church that teaches the uncompromised Word of God and become an active member. Although your salvation is not based on church membership, you’ll never really be able to grow and mature as a Christian unless you’re part of a church body somewhere. You need to be in a place where you can hear the Word of God taught on a regular basis and where you can build supportive relationships with other people who are like-minded in their love for God.It’s good to have a group of friends who will encourage you and help you grow. If you live in Custer County here in Nebraska, we invite you to be a part of Christian Life Center. If not, we encourage you to visit www.Rhema.org and find a church near you.
Coming to a place of spiritual maturity is a process. You won’t get there overnight, so don’t be discouraged when you make mistakes. Just take it one step at a time. 1 John 1:9 says that if you confess your sins, God will forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. You don’t have to be afraid that He’ll be mad at you or that He’s going to kick you out of the family. He loves you and is eager to help you.
Give to the Work of the Ministry
Give Tithes and Offerings to Your Local Church (2 Corinthians 9:6-7)
Your relationship with God can be as rewarding and fulfilling as you decide to make it. I encourage you to set your sights high. Make Him the number one priority in your life. If you do that, a whole new level of living awaits you – the life you were destined by God to live, the very life for which you were created. Don’t miss out.
